Software Innovators
In the 1960s, we became the first U.S. software firm to promote the concept of a database management system, and we provided the first DBMS delivered by an independent software vendor. During the 1970s, Cincom became the first American software firm to recognize the importance of international markets, expanding to open sales offices in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan - beating many companies to the Pacific Rim by a decade. In addition, we became the first software vendor to work directly with a hardware manufacturer to provide software specifically for its equipment, when we signed an agreement with Honeywell.
Having already established a reputation for innovation in implementation, we then initiated the concept of technical product support centers five years before IBM. Moreover, during the same decade, we became the first full-service software firm by offering both manufacturing and financial applications, as well as database and online system software products.
